Senior Years
Years 11-12
Stepping into purpose, direction, and a hope-filled future
The senior years are not just the final stage of school. They are the beginning of what comes next. At Summerland, these years are intentionally designed to prepare students to step into the world with confidence, clarity, and purpose.
We want our graduates to leave ready, not just for exams, but for life.
A community that learns together
The senior years are marked by a strong sense of community.
Our students do not compete against one another.
They support, encourage, and champion each other toward success.
Within dedicated senior spaces, students experience:
- independence in their learning
- connection with peers
- shared study, conversation, and meals
These are years filled not only with focus and discipline, but also with joy, laughter, and belonging.
Focused Learning
with confidence and clear pathways
Students engage in purposeful and rigorous learning aligned with their chosen pathway. We offer multiple pathways, including:
ATAR
Vocational Education and Training (VET)
non-ATAR options
Students are supported to make informed decisions about their subjects, ensuring their choices align with their strengths, interests, and future direction.
For detailed information about subject selection, courses, and pathways, please see our Senior Pathways and Subject Selection guide.
Our students consistently achieve strong results, reflecting both the quality of teaching and the commitment of our learners. We hold high expectations, and we support each student to achieve their personal best.

Known, supported, and guided
At Summerland, students are known. Our size and structure allow us to walk closely with each student, particularly during the pressure and challenges of the senior years.
When stress rises, we are there:
guiding
supporting
providing pastoral care
helping students navigate decisions about their future
Students are not left to manage this stage alone.

Growing in independence and responsibility
Senior students are given increasing autonomy, built on a foundation of trust.
They are expected to:
- manage their time and commitments
- take responsibility for their learning
- demonstrate discipline and perseverance
We continue to reinforce that hard work is the pathway to success, while helping students develop the habits needed for life beyond school.
Leadership, character, and contribution
Senior students play a significant role in shaping the culture of the College.
They lead, mentor, and influence younger students, modelling what it means to live with integrity, responsibility, and care for others.
We celebrate not only academic success, but also:
- growth in character
- leadership
- service and citizenship
These are the qualities that define the young adults they are becoming.

Faith that is personal and lived
By the senior years, faith becomes increasingly personal and grounded in conviction. Students are encouraged to:
- develop their own beliefs and understanding
- think deeply about faith, purpose, and truth
- live out their faith with integrity
They are challenged to consider how their faith will shape:
- their future direction
- their relationships
- the way they contribute to the world
This is a time where belief becomes ownership.
